FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does MAPROUTE do?
MAPROUTE turns a trip into an animated map video: you add your stops, pick a look, and export a video in which the route draws itself from stop to stop. Choose plane, car, bus, train, boat or walking for each leg (27 vehicles in all), add photos at your stops, music and your logo, and export for Reels, TikTok, Shorts or YouTube. It runs in your web browser, with nothing to install.
Is MAPROUTE free?
Yes: making and exporting videos is free and unlimited, with a small “maproute.app” watermark on free videos. To remove the watermark, sign in for one free clean export, then buy credits (3 for €4 or 10 for €12, one credit per clean export) or go Pro (€12 a month or €59 a year) for unlimited clean exports and 4K. Prices include VAT where applicable.
How do I remove the watermark?
Export a clean video: your first one is free when you sign in, each credit removes the watermark from one export, and Pro removes it from all of them. Free videos carry a small “maproute.app” mark in a corner. The small “© OpenStreetMap contributors” map credit stays on every video, as the map data’s licence requires.
Do I need to sign up?
No: you can build and export watermarked videos without an account. Sign in with a one-time email link to save your projects, get your free clean export, or buy credits or Pro.
Which formats, sizes and frame rates can I export?
MP4 and WebM video in 1080p at 30 or 60 fps, plus animated GIF, in vertical 9:16 (1080×1920), square 1:1 (1080×1080) or wide 16:9 (1920×1080). Pro adds 4K (up to 3840×2160), which needs Chrome or Edge on a computer. GIFs are up to 480 px on the long side, 15 fps and 15 seconds.
Which looks and travel modes are there?
There are 12 one-click looks and 6 travel modes (plane, car, bus, train, boat and walking) with 27 vehicles, from airliners and steam trains to camel caravans and sailing ships. You can also choose from 12 map styles including satellite and 3D terrain, 10 colour palettes, 6 fonts and 4 camera views (flat, tilted, follow and street-level), show the whole Earth as a globe, and start from 24 famous routes.
Can I use the videos commercially?
Yes: you may use your exported videos for personal and commercial purposes, including ads. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License; every export includes this credit and you must not remove it. The built-in music loops are public domain (CC0) and free to use, and the famous-route photos are public domain or CC BY, credited on screen while they show.
Is my data private?
Yes: your videos render on your own device, and your photos, music and finished videos stay there unless you save a project to your account. To find places and draw real roads, your search text and stop coordinates are sent to the search and routing services. There are no advertising trackers and no cookie-based analytics; see our Privacy Policy.
Which browsers work?
MAPROUTE works in any modern browser, and best in Chrome or Edge on a computer, where exports are fastest and 4K is available. Safari and Firefox export MP4 and WebM too, using a slower built-in encoder where needed, and GIF works everywhere. Phones and tablets can make videos, but long exports are quicker on a computer.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: a credit pack can be refunded within 14 days if you haven’t used any of its credits, and Pro within 14 days of first subscribing if you haven’t made a clean export. If an export fails or a purchase doesn’t arrive because of a fault on our side, we’ll fix it or refund you, and a failed export never costs a credit. Email info@f1com.gr from the address you signed in with; the details are in our Refund & Withdrawal Policy.
Do credits expire?
No: credits never expire, and each one removes the watermark from one export whenever you use it. A credit is only spent when an export finishes, so failed exports cost nothing. Credits have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and are lost if you delete your account.
How do I cancel Pro?
Cancel anytime in Account → Billing, and Pro stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for. You won’t be charged again; there are no partial refunds for unused time in a period, except where the law requires it.
Do the car and train routes follow real roads?
Yes for road trips: car, bus, bike and walking legs follow real roads and trails (OpenStreetMap data, routed with OSRM), and you can switch Roads off on a leg for a smooth drawn curve. Train, boat and flight legs are drawn as smooth lines, and the famous routes’ ships keep to real sea lanes and rivers.
How many stops can a route have?
Up to 30 stops per video, each with up to 12 photos. GIF exports are capped at 15 seconds; MP4 and WebM have no fixed length limit.
Can I use the famous routes and their photos?
Yes: all 24 famous routes are free to start from, and their photos are public domain or CC BY, so you can use them in any video, including commercial ones. While a photo is on screen its credit shows in the corner automatically, and each route’s page lists the full credits.
Who makes MAPROUTE?
MAPROUTE is made by F1 Communications I.K.E. in Marousi, Athens, Greece. For help, refunds, privacy or partnerships, email info@f1com.gr and start the subject line with “MAPROUTE”.
